On Saturday, November 9, 2013, I was commissioned to do a Plein Air painting capturing the christening ceremony of the new Gerald R Ford aircraft carrier at the Newport News Shipyard in Virginia. Later that evening I presented the “wet” painting to president Fords daughter, Susan Ford Bales, during a dinner held at the Marriott Hotel in Newport News.
As a Plein Air painter, Brian Murphy has committed himself to capturing on canvas the scenic environment throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. The same majestic landscapes and seascapes that inspired early California Plein Air painters such as: Edgar Payne, Hanson Puthuff and William Wendt provide audience to the artist’s unrestrained style. Further afield, extensive travels to exotic locales including: China, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Hawaii and Alaska have resulted in impressive collections of oil paintings, while fostering the artist’s creativity and global awareness.
